The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu (PDP, Delta), says the lives of members are in danger due to the structural deficiency causing leakage of water in the chamber.
Raising a point of order under privilege at the plenary on Wednesday, he said, it was dangerous for the members to continue sitting while there is an observed and glaring structural defect in the building.

He, therefore, called on the house to ensure the repairs of the chambers as well as other places in National Assembly that need repairs.
“I come under privilege on what is happening in this chamber. Mr Speaker, if you look around, we are surrounded by water, especially because our chamber is leaking and I am worried that if something is not done to address it, nobody holds one’s life but we never can tell what can happen.
“Coming into this place, you can see the cleaners, they are busy packing the water that is coming down from this chamber and to me it is dangerous for our continuous participation in our day-to-day representation of our people, speaking for our people for good legislation. I think Mr Speaker that something needs to be done to address these leakages within this chamber. This is my submission,” he said.
The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, said the point raised by the minority leader was an important one.
The House National Assembly complex had been battling with leaky roof for a while.
Whenever it rains seriously, the lobby area becomes flooded, making cleaners to battle with the water coming in through various points in the roof.
