No fewer than 140 youths in Niger State have been trained in various aspects of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

North Central Trust learnt that the beneficiaries were drawn from the nine local government areas making up Niger East Senatorial District.

The training was sponsored by the lawmaker representing Niger East Senatorial District, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa.

The five-day training covered  Computer appreciation, web-design, digital poster and banner designs as well as digital card designs.

It was anchored by the National Information and Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Musa disclosed that the decision to train the youths was borne out of his passion to empower them with requisite skills that will make them self-reliant.

He frowned at the involvement of youths in drug abuse and political thuggery.

“I have children at home. If my children will not be in the street engaging in political thuggery or drug abuse, I will give my best to see that other children do not go to the street.

“I also believe our youths have the potential to be at their best, if given the necessary support. Hence, the training is geared towards making them realise their dreams and putting their potential into profitable ventures,” the Senator said.

He also disclosed that another set of 300 youths and women is currently undergoing training in crop production at the Niger State Technology Incubation Centre, Minna, and other aspects of science and technology at the Industrial Trust Fund, ITF.

Musa further added that 1000 secondary and tertiary schools students will benefit from a scholarship scheme he has instituted to assist indigent children.

Governor Abubakar Bello who was represented by the Commissioner for Investment, Dr Mustapha Jibril, commended the Senator for the kind gesture.

The participants thanked Senator Sani Musa for the training.

Our correspondent reports each of the participant was given a N50,000 grant to enable him start a trade.
