About 500 women and youths from Niger east senatorial district have benefitted from empowerment programme of Senator Mohammed Sani Musa.
The gesture, which was worth millions of naira, was part of the lawmaker’s efforts to make people of the district self-reliant.
The empowerment according to him was in fulfillment of his promise to bring out at least 10,000 youths and women out of poverty during his tenure as Senator representing Niger East.
Items distributed included 21 tricycles, 130 motorcycles, 80 grinding machines, 80 deep freezers, 30 generators, 95 sewing machines, 45 clippers and 24 sewing machines.
The beneficiaries were drawn from across the nine local government areas that make up Niger East Senatorial District.
Senator Sani Musa, who was represented by his legislative aide, Alhaji Zubairu Ismail, said empowerment of youths and women remained one of his priorities and that more of such programmes were underway.
He disclosed that he is also facilitating the establishment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres to be established across the nine local government areas of the Senatorial district where youths would be trained on new technology skills.
He urged the beneficiaries of the empowerment items to use them judiciously so as to enable them also empower other less privileged persons in their communities.
