After several weeks of warning to the traders, LAWMA took a bold decision to shut the market down over what was described as the non-challant attitude of traders who sold farm produce in the market.
Some of the traders who had come for their normal business activities were surprised to see the gate of the market under lock and key, while the presence of armed Nigerian Navy officers sent fear down their spines.
While making enquiries on what could have led to the closure of the popular produce market by the LAWMA from one of the officials, Oodua Trust gathered that they had warned traders against disposing the remnants of their wares on the main road.
The officer added that the agency had asked the traders to put waste bins close to their wares in the market for use instead of disposing them on the expressway at night.
Furthermore, the officer emphasised that they would not open the market until the traders complied with the rules and regulations guiding the administration of market operators in the state, adding that they would station their officers at the market to monitor the activities of traders on daily basis.
