Former President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has described death of late Danmasanin Kano, Dr Yusuf Maitama Sule as a great loss of a leader and father dear to all.

Speaking in Kano on Saturday when he paid a condolence visit to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said, Kano and indeed Nigeria has lost a great son.

“We have lost a leader and father dear to all of us. I have never had somebody who speaks of Maitama Sule. He was great man not because he has a power of oratory or because he has served in several offices but because of the role he played for the unity to this country. He has advocated for good governance and unity of Nigerian,” he said.

Jonathan said late Danmasani was one person that had played a key role in the development of this country both political and economic growth;before the independence and after the independence.

The former president added that the late orator had served the country in all kinds of offices that one would want to serve; he was a parliamentarian, a minister and an ambassador.

“He was not just an ambassador, but no 1 ambassador then being a permanent representative of this country at the United Nation (UN). We have several leaders and statesmen in this country but Maitama Sule is one person that most of his talks were not centered on the issue of one section of the country or the other or one region or the other. Most of the utterances centered on Nigeria as corporate body.

“Any time you sit down to discuss with late Maitama Sule, you will get a lot of inspirations and encouragements because of his commitment to the development and unity of our country,” Jonathan said.

The former president, who commended Kano state government for immortalizing late Danmasani, also appealed to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to continue assisting the family of the late orator.
