One person has been confirmed to have died from Lassa Fever in Bauchi State while two suspected cases are being closely monitored.
Head of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Agency, Pharmacist Ibrahim Gamawa made the disclosure in Bauchi yesterday.
Speaking to our reporter on telephone he said that the victim died on his way to hospital from Dul ward in Tafawa Balewa Local Government.
Pharmacist Gamawa said that the two suspected cases were from Alkaleri Local Government and Liman Katagum in Bauchi Local Government area.
"The victim died on his way to hospital, but it was established from the samples taken from him that he died from the fever. For the two suspected cases, we have sent their samples to Irua in Edo State for analysis and we are waiting for the result in order to know that the cases are that of Lass Fever or not,"he said.
He said that, since the case of Lassa Fever is not treated at the Primary Healthcare level, the state is collaborating with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) to handle the cases.
He added that the state government and the Federal Ministry of Health has been constantly in touch over Lassa Fever since its outbreak in recent times.
"We have activated all our channels of information and responses and we have sensitise our health workers especially in the rural areas to be vigilant in order to detect the early symptoms of the fever for immediate action,"he added.
He said that a vigorous sensitisation campaign in the media and other channels to sensitise people on the disease as had been done in the past.
Bauchi was listed among five states that recorded new cases of Lassa Fever in August.The state had recorded cases of the fever in the past two years with over ten deaths.
