LAPO trains 700 entrepreneurs on micro-businesses, financial literacy

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO), Godwin Ehigiamosoe, has said no fewer than 700 entrepreneurs have been trained under its micro-businesses and financial literacy programmes between November 2017 and October 2018.

Ehigiamosoe, who disclosed this recently in Benin during the LAPO’s outstanding women leadership award, said 98 percent of the beneficiaries were women.

According to him, the training equipped the beneficiaries with the rudiments of businesses and financial discipline, noting that beneficiaries have become successful in their business as a result of the training.

“Women are the major beneficiaries of LAPO development programmes. In 2018, we empowered 1,306,845 community members majorly women with social and health empowerment programmes in target communities across the country. Over 46,070,635 persons also benefited from our community campaign for cancer control programme,” he said

In her speech, the chairman, board  of directors of LAPO,  Sorenson Emokpae, said the award was a demonstration of the organisation’s commitment to women advancement, noting that  21 women who have distinguished themselves in their careers and business organisations with social impact on the society have been honoured since it was initiated in 2013.

He said LAPO believes that gender balance is pivotal to achieving the desired development at all levels.

Those honoured were Prof Christina Okojie, Mrs Oserheben Sarah and Eucharia Asikralu Okafor.
