Laolu Akande’s Legacy, Exemplary Public Service Earns Him Well-Deserved National Honours – Adigun

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to journalism and public service, renowned journalist Laolu Akande has been honored with a prestigious national award. Akande became the only Nigerian journalist to have ever interviewed a sitting American president, including George Bush at the White House. He also interviewed President Donald Trump, former US secretary of state, Collin Powell and a host of other powerful persons while in the United States.

While in diaspora, he led the Nigerian community in advocacy that led the US Government to designate Boko Haram as a Terrorist Organization meaning the US could then support their destruction.

As a journalist, Akande remains the first and only Nigerian journalist ever to interview a sitting US President in the White House. He is also Africa’s longest serving correspondent at the United Nations.
