Landmine kills 4 hunters, injures 7 in Borno

Not fewer than four local hunters were killed and seven others sustained various degrees of injuries when an improvised explosives device (IED) buried by people suspected to be insurgents exploded on Borno highway on Saturday, a local hunter source said.

It was learnt that the incident occurred around 10:00am between Damboa and Sabon-Gari along Damboa / Biu highway in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

It was gathered that their operational vehicle was damaged beyond repair as seven members of local hunters are currently in critical condition.

A member of the local hunters, Bura Mohammed, told Daily Trust that they went on patrol when they stepped on the landmine.

He said the victims had since been buried according to Islamic rite, while the wounded hunters are currently receiving treatment in Biu General Hospital.

As the time of filing this report, the military is yet to confirm the incident.
