A 68-year-old Lagos landlord has been arraigned before a Lagos chief magistrate’s court sitting in Badagry over alleged illegal eviction of one of his tenants, Felix Uche.

 The tenant had approached the court to seek redress after his landlord, Daudu, allegedly threw his property out of his apartment while he was at work.

 In his defense, the landlord claimed that he no longer wanted the complainant as his tenant over a yet to be ascertained reason.

The incident happened on April 19, 2023, at about 7am, at Eweh Close, Pako-Ketu, Ijanikin area of Lagos, where Uche rented the apartment.

The matter was later reported to the Police at Ijaniki Division, leading to the arrest of the landlord.

The prosecutor, Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the landlord unlawfully and forcefully entered Felix Uche’s apartment and threw out all his household properties, which contravened Section 168 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and the chief magistrate, Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted him bail in the sum of 100,000 and two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to May 17 for further mention.
