Lalong not withholding LG staff salaries — Commissioner

The Plateau State Commissioner for Information, Dan Manjang, Thursday dismissed the insinuation that the government was withholding salaries of LGA workers.

The state government was reacting to a recent protest by members of the Local Government Employees (NULGE) over non-implementation of N30,000 minimum wage in LGAs in the state and the news making the round that the state was withholding their salaries.

The commissioner condemned the blockade of roads by the protesters, saying their action had disrupted activities in the state.

Meanwhile, the State Police Command has claimed that some of the NULGE members are being used to disrupt peace in the state as the protest over the non-implementation of N30,000 minimum wage continues.

ASP Ubah Gabriel, the police spokesman in the state, told journalists in Jos that the command would not fold its arm and watch the disruption of public peace through the blockade of highways or major roads.

Gabriel said the police command was “closely watching the situation” and would “respond appropriately to any disturbance of the peace.”
