Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, has advised the People’s Democratic Party in the state to engage in constructive criticism as well as churn out laudable programmes that can sell the party and candidate instead of resorting to “gutter politics that will not garner votes or support for their party.”
Lalong was responding to a statement issued by the PDP signed by its Publicity Secretary, John Akans, which described the governor’s recent visit to Gashish district in Barkin Ladi LGA as disgraceful and coming five months after the gruesome massacre and destruction of their homes, as well as forceful occupation of their villages and towns under the watch of the APC government.
The governor in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mark Longyen, yesterday stated: “It is sad and sickening and indeed the height of insensitivity and political chicanery that the opposition will give political coloration to a visit that was aimed at staving off the spate of attacks and ameliorating the sufferings of the IDPs by returning them to their ancestral homes.”
It stated that the governor’s visit to Gashish was mainly to inspect the site for the establishment of the new police mobile squadron recently approved by the federal government on the request of the governor.
