Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has assured the state-owned team, Plateau United Football Club that that they would play their continental matches at the Ultra Modern Stadium, Jos.

Albert Dakup, the club’s spokesman on Saturday in Jos, said in a statement that the governor gave the assurance when he paid unscheduled visit to the team’s training ground at the Rwang Pam Stadium Jos, on Friday.

Lalong stated that the state government, under his leadership, would complete the multi-billion naira stadium, under construction before the beginning of the next football season.

He stressed that the extra effort on the project was to enable the teeming football fans watch continental matches in a conducive environment.

The governor further said his administration was fully committed and ready to support the team in realising their objectives.

Lalong told the team that the reward he promised them, for finishing top in the last session of the football league would be delivered to the team on Monday.

He also assured them that all the promises he made before the league season began would be fulfilled soon.

The governor, however, challenged the team to work harder to win the title by winning their remaining matches, beginning with this weekend’s tie against Akwa United of Uyo on Sunday.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the team’s Captain, Golbe Elisha, thanked Lalong for the visit which he said had boosted their morale ahead of their planned home match against Akwa United.

Elisha assured the governor that he and his team mates would strive hard to ensure that they win the league title.

“We will do our best and deliver the trophy to you as a sign of our appreciation for the unflinching support you have been giving to us,” he said. (NAN)
