Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured residents of the state that the first line of the on-going Imota Rice Mill, Imota-Ikorodu will be ready for commissioning before the end of 2019.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance yesterday while on inspection of the mill in Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
He said when completed, the mill would be the biggest of its kind in Nigeria, producing 32 metric ton of rice in one hour and 2.8 million 50kg bags per annum.
He said the production capacity should be able to cater for between 15 and 20 percent rice need of Nigerians.
“But this is not about the rice manufacturing alone, conversation is on-going on between Lagos and Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States. These are other South West States that are contiguous to Lagos State. So, we are discussing on how to be rice producers as well,” he said.
