Lagos residents cast votes peacefully in Ikeja, Oshodi, Bariga, others

Despite the late arrival of the ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a number of polling units in Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday morning, the election is going on smoothly without rancour.

The voters were seen organising themselves and taking down their names or numbers to give priority to early beds as voting commences.

A number of the polling units visited by our reporter around Oshodi were also peaceful despite late arrival of voting materials in some of them.

‘Area boys’ were seen around some unit particularly at Onigbongbo 001 and 002 in Oshodi. However, large number of security operatives were also sighted, which ensured that the voting carry on smoothly.

Also, most of the polling units visited by our reporter in Gbagada and Bariga areas of the state witnessed early arrival of INEC’s ad-hoc staff and commencement of voting.

Maryland area was also peaceful as polling units visited witnessed large turnout and peaceful exercise.

Security personnel, especially the Army, were seen several metres away from the voting centres. They, however, confined themselves to major roads where they carried out thorough stop and search of vehicles on election and emergency duties.
