Lagos State recorded no fewer than 847 cases of disaster in the last six months covering January to June, 2022, according to report from the state emergency management agency (LASEMA).
The cases cut across road accidents, Tanker accidents, fire incidents, building collapse, pipeline explosion, among others.
The figures released by LASEMA revealed that 331 Road accidents were recorded in the year under review followed by Fallen/Faulty trucks and tankers with 303 cases recorded.
94 fire disasters were also recorded in the year under review followed by building collapse with 23 cases recorded.
Daily Trust reports that there have been increasing cases of fire disaster with two major incidents recorded this week.
On Monday the popular Okobaba Plant Market near 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos was gutted by fire.
Also on Tuesday, there was another Fire Outbreak at Mile 2, Otto Wharf which occurred around 6 pm.
Emergency responders were making frantic efforts to put out the fire at the time of filing this report.
According to the emergency response reports, Alimosho Local Government, the largest local government in the state recorded the highest figure of 127 cases followed by Ikeja which recorded 109.
Oshodi-Isolo recorded 88; Kosofe 72; Apapa 59; Mushin 55; Surulere 53; Ikorodu 48; Shomolu 45; Lagos Island 40 and Lagos Mainland 26.
Amuwo-Odofin recorded 23 cases; Agege 20; Epe 19; Ifako-Ijaiye 16; Ojo and Eti-Osa 14; Ibeju-Lekki 8; Ajeromi-Ifelodun 5 while Badagry recorded 2 cases. In the same vein, four cases were responded to in neighbouring Ogun State, according to the figures.
