The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed February 23, 2022 for the conduct of the Lagos party congress.
To this end, stakeholders and chieftains of the party have agreed on a consensus candidate with Dr. Amos Fawole emerging as the choice of the party, Daily Trust can report.
The party’s congress held October last year had been truncated, resulting in allegations and counter-allegations causing the party’s national leadership to set up a caretaker committee.
However, the party is set to produce a substantive chairman in the next one week.
The National Organizing Secretary of the party, Hon. Umar M. Bature, had in a letter to the state caretaker committee chairman, Engr. Julius Akinsola, communicated the new dates of February 23 and March 1, 2022 for the congress and the congress appeals respectively.
The NWC, in another letter, also extended the current tenure of the Lagos State caretaker committee for another 30 days.
This decision was taken after careful review of the general situation of the state, it said.
Meanwhile, stakeholders of the party have agreed on a consensus arrangement to elect the chairman and other members of the state working committee with the offices shared among all the tendencies of the party.
It was learnt that this was agreed upon at a meeting convened by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State held at Lagos Marriot Hotel.
