The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos has hailed the judgment of the Federal High court sitting in Port Harcourt, which recognized the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee to steer the ship of the party.
The state chapter of the party in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Taofiq Gani described the judgment as "justice for the soul of the party at this time" while commending what it called the reconciliatory spirit of Senator Makarfi who reportedly described the judgment as "no winner, no looser."
The chapter also called on Sheriff to drop the idea of appealing the judgement in the interest of the party’s future.
According to the Lagos PDP, Sheriff had demonstrated that he is a fighter but his energy should be deployed into future elections to ensure the party’s victory.
The statement added, "This statesman-like spirit should now manifest in the immediate commencement of invitation and reconciliation of protesting members, especially in the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s camp. Hopefully this will be done in earnest and successfully lead us to membership drive of new more members as we approach 2019.
"For Senator Sheriff to reunite with the party at this time will be well timed and indeed end the unwarranted distractions towards the Edo governorship contest in particular. He should now take the positive decision to allow peace in the party. Indeed, there is still room for meaningful reconciliation. We admonish him to be wary of sycophants and political failures who surround him only for their selfish and momentary gains. He should reach out to the caretaker committee and contribute his quota to the developmental programmes of the party. This way, posterity would be kind on him".
