A self-acclaimed pastor, simply identified as Moses, who is a Bureau de Change (BDC) operator, and one other person have been arrested for allegedly stealing $500 belonging to a customer in Lagos.
The first suspect was alleged to have removed $500 from a bunch of $5,000 which was given to him to convert by one Lookman at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, at the weekend.
In his statement to the police, the self-acclaimed pastor admitted stealing the $500, saying, “I was only given N10,000 at the end of the whole transaction. We agreed to settle the matter amicably.”
Narrating how he fell into the hands of the gang, Lookman said, “I was trying to help my mum change $5,000. I got to the Airport Hotel and met these men. After negotiating, they offered me N387 to a dollar.

They took my details and told me the transaction was going to be online. Edwin requested that I surrendered the $5,000 bills for them to confirm. I gave them and was monitoring them as they counted the bills in my car.
“Another member of the gang came in mid-way. His arrival distracted the counting.
“So, we entered the bank. All along they prevented me from counting the money. In the bank, they told me the rate they gave me was no longer possible and that they were backing out, so I offered a renegotiation.
“I went into the toilet to confirm the money. I counted it and $500 was missing. Before I could come out they had run away. The door attendants told me he saw them rushing out of the bank.
“I went to where I met them but didn’t see them. It was on the third day that I saw Edwin and I invited the police.”
