The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has impounded over 100 private and commercial vehicles parked on bridges in the state.
The seizure was done during an enforcement operation which started on Wednesday at the expiration of a seven-day vacation order issued to commercial bus and truck drivers who have converted the tops of bridges in the state into parks and garages.
The Special Adviser (SA) on Transportation to the Governor of Lagos State, Sola Giwa, who led the operation, said the operation was conducted to bring to an end the activities that had impeded free flow of traffic on bridges.
He said the vehicles were impounded on Ejalonibu, Obalende, Apongbon, Ebute-Ero and Idumota (Carter) bridges on Lagos Island.

He noted that, “It is nauseating to see both private and commercial bus drivers constituting nuisance on bridges through their activities. They have converted bridges in the state into parks and garages for vehicles. Their action is causing avoidable gridlock and inconveniencing other motorists and road users.”
While stating that the culprits would be charged to the Lagos State Mobile Court, he said, “We would continue to ensure free flow of traffic by scaling up our enforcement and clampdown operations on these stubborn drivers.”
