Lagos fisherman in court for stealing fishing boat

A 22-year-old fisherman, Yonrenfun Edito, who allegedly stole an engine fitted fishing boat worth N500,000 was on yesterday docked in a Yaba Magistrates’ court in Lagos.

Edito, a resident of Iwaya area of Yaba, Lagos , was charged with breach of peace and theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Police prosecutor, Sgt Godwin Oriabure, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at 1.45a.m. on Oct. 5, at Iwaya Waterfront in Yaba, Lagos.

He said the defendant stole his neighbour’s fishing boat worth N500,000 and tried to escape with it.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 168 (d) and 287 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. (Revised)

Chief Magistrate A.O. Salawu,  admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Salawu adjourned the case until Oct. 15 for further mention. (NAN)
