Lagos State Government has said it is set to partner with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to boost the coconut value chain, which is conservatively estimated to be over N350 billion yearly.
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, disclosed this when a team led by the Country Representative of FAO, Fred Kaffero visited his office in Lagos.

He emphasised that the partnership will significantly improve coconut production as well as strengthens its value chain in the State.
According to the Deputy Governor, FAO being a research-based organisation, will visit the sites in Lagos state, take the sample soil and coconut as well as see the varieties and make recommendations to the state government.
Also, the FAO country representative, Kaferro commended the Lagos state government for its commitment to food and agricultural production.
He noted that agriculture and its value chain requires partnership, noting that coconut gives the opportunity for income generation for different segments of the society.
Earlier in her remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya maintained that the development of the coconut sector will ensure sustainable food security, income, employment and wealth creation that will impact on the economy of the state.
