Lagos cult clash: 1 killed, many injured, 2 arrested

One person was killed and many others injured in a cult clash on Opaleye Street in the Ajegunle area of Lagos between Friday and Saturday.

The Lagos State police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said two person, Quadri Yekini (32) and James Segun (22), had been arrested for their alleged involvement in the crisis that grounded human and vehicular movement in the area until the arrival of anti-riot policemen.

Meanwhile, before the weekend incident, Daily Trust learnt that a naval rating, A.S. Harrison, was hacked down on Olowojeunjeje Street, Ajegunle, by hoodlums suspected to be members of the “Catch in the Air’’ robbery gang.

It was further learnt that the killing led to tension as personnel of the Nigerian Navy (NN) and friends of the deceased in the Mobil Road Barracks, Ajegunle, vowed to avenge his death but were calmed by naval authorities.

But the weekend fracas was said to be a fallout of the 2023 annual “777 Day” celebration by cultists.
