Lagos commissioners-designate appear before Assembly

Thirty five out of the 36 Lagos State commissioner nominees appeared before the state House of Assembly yesterday, even as the ad-hoc committee set up to screen them submitted its report which was not discussed by members of the House.
The House had earlier set-up a 15 man committee to screen the nominees against the usual practice of inviting them to appear before it for direct screening.
The screening committee headed by Deputy Speaker Wasiu Eshinlokun was directed by the House to invite the nominees and screen them between Monday and Friday last week and report back yesterday when the House was expected to resume plenary after a short break.
But yesterday, before the nominees were called in, the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, told the House that they were invited to speak on the floor openly to eliminate doubts and end  speculations on the purpose of the screening committee.
Obasa invited the nominees one after the other to speak on their respective backgrounds and experiences. All the nominees expressed their delight over the way the committee treated them.
