Detectives attached to the railway command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have arrested 15 persons for vandalising railway tracks.

The Commissioner of Police, Railway Command, Yetunde Longe, while briefing newsmen in Lagos on the activities of her command, said the 15 suspects were arrested for crimes bordering around theft, vandalisation and others committed in and around Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) infrastructure.

CP Longe said three of the suspects: Hadi Mohammed (42), Abdullahi Mohammed (34) and Abdullahi Shittu (45), were arrested in Minna, Niger State, with iron sleepers loaded in a saloon upon a tip off from members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).

She said in Aba, Abia State, four suspects: Michael Chukwuebuka, Chigozie Augustine, Onyekachi Abba and Chukwuma Adumoha, were arrested in connection with the theft of sleepers kept by the Chinese Construction Company (CCECC), and that upon investigation, the stolen items were recovered and handed over to the company.

She said two fleeing suspects: Ridwan Olalekan and Sharafa Muritala, were arrested and charged to court.

She further said that the Ilorin division of the arrested two suspects: Yahaya Mohammed and Jumai Sule, with 113 clips at Sabon Gida area of Jebba during a patrol, adding that the Gombe division also arrested one Bashir Abudullahi who was caught in the act of vandalising and stealing 58 railway clips.
