One person was killed in a renewed cult clash in the Ajegunle area of Lagos metropolis on Saturday morning.
The police command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said two suspects were arrested.
He explained that fighting broke out between rival cult gang members in the area on Friday and that the Ajegunle Police Division received a distress call about the clash around 3pm, that hoodlums suspected to be rival cultists from Nasamu and Iyalode streets, Ajegunle, were engaged in a fight.
He said, “Based on the report, a team of policemen swiftly mobilised to the scene to dislodge the suspects. On sensing the arrival of the police, the hoodlums abandoned their mission and took to the heels. The police combed the scene for the suspects. Two of the hoodlums were later arrested in their hideout. One other suspect, Kamiku (25), who was seriously injured during the clash, was rushed to the hospital where he later died.”
He added that normalcy had been restored to the affected areas, while foot and vehicular patrols had been deployed to forestall any further threat of law and order.
