The management of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, has distanced itself from Associate Professor Fred Ekpe-Ayokhai, a lecturer in the institution’s Department of History and International Studies, over the physical assault on a 20-year-old student, Blessing Mathias.

The university, in a statement signed by the spokesman, Abubakar Ibrahim, said the institution viewed the unfortunate incident as unpardonable, shameful and condemnable.

The university noted that the action exhibited by the lecturer did not represent in the least what should be expected from any member of its staff.

The statement reads in part:  “Reports on the physical assault on a girl named Blessing Mathias allegedly by Dr Fred Ekpe Ayokhai, a lecturer in the Department History and International Studies, Federal University, Lafia, on Monday, October 24, officially reached the attention of the management of the university.

“The reports revealed that the daughter of Dr Fred Ekpe Ayokhai who had earlier quarreled with Blessing, who is not a student of FULafia, revealed that Dr Ayokhai, along with his daughter and some persons believed to be his family members, later combined to assault Blessing.” “The unfortunate happenings occurred when the university was not in session, with plans underway to reopen for academic activities on November 7, 2022.” Meanwhile, the police have said that upon completion of investigation they would charge the suspects, Emmanuela Ekpa Ayokhai, Bob Praise Ayokhai and Saint-Dan Ayokhai, to court.
