Lafia varsity begins 3-day SSANU strike over welfare issues

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) of the Federal University, Lafia chapter, has commenced three day protest in compliance with directive from National Headquarters of the association.

The SSANU chairman in the university, Comrade Monday Sarki, said the strke action which commenced today (Tuesday) would last till Friday as directed by the national headquarters.

He listed their grievances to include non-payment of earned allowances, dismissal of staff of universities’ staff schools and failure to implement agreement reached with the association, among others.

“In view of the above, our national headquarters decided that all branches organise a three-day protest,” he added.

The chairman said the protest which started by 9am would last to 4pm daily.

During a protest heralding the commencement of the strike action today, members of the association were seen carrying placards with different inscriptions such as, ‘FG give priority to education sector,’ ‘pay our earned allowances’ etc.
