Organised labour in Kebbi State has suspended its indefinite strike embarked upon on Wednesday after the state government met its demands.
They had threatened to embark on industrial action on January 1, 2020, if the government failed to meet their demands, which included workers’ 2019 leave grant and retirees’ gratuity.

The chairmen of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Umar Halidu Alhassan and Danladi Aliyu Dabai respectively announced the suspension on Thursday at a joint briefing in the state capital.
They said the state government has paid workers their 2019 leave grant and has approved the sum of N3 billion for retirees’ gratuity.
They added that negotiation on minimum wage consequential salary adjustment, payment of 2020 leave grant and remittance of teachers’ pension contribution to the Pension Fund Administrators would resume immediately.
They directed all workers in the state to resume work with immediate effect.
The senator representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, Bala Ibn Na’Allah, commended the organised labour for the maturity exhibited in calling off the strike.
He said continued dialogue was the only means of resolving industrial feud.
“Kebbi is not insulated from the various challenges facing Nigeria at the moment.
“The strike embarked upon will create a huge barrier in the collective effort of repositioning Kebbi State,” he added.
