Kwara women laud Saraki, Gov Ahmed over 35% affirmative action

Women in Kwara State have expressed gratitude to the Senate president, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki and the Governor of Kwara State, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, for actualizing the 35% women representation in the newly constituted Transitional Implementation Committees (TIC) in the 16 local government areas of the state.

A statement by the State Woman Leader, Hajia Sarat Nike Adebayo, said the feat was unprecedented in the history of the state.

She said the representation was a manifestation of the belief by the leadership of the Kwara APC in the political emancipation of women in line with the party’s manifesto which stipulated that the rights of women were protected as enshrined in the nation’s constitution.

She added that that would guarantee that women were adequately represented in government appointments and were provided greater opportunities in the affairs of the nation.

Adebayo also said that the state had achieved 35% rate of gender inclusion in appointments of the local government caretaker committees pointing out that if women got the deserved support from the political stakeholders, they would perform creditably and demonstrate effective leadership.

The state woman leader said that the development was good not only for the electorate constituted over 70% by women but also for the womenfolk who had hitherto been relegated to the background in decision-making processed over the years.

She stated that there was no doubt that an increase in women representation in the government would empower women with its multiplier effects in overall development.
