Kwara: We break into houses with unlocked gates – Robber

A serial robber in Kwara State, Wasiu Ismail (30), on Monday revealed that he and his gang members usually look out for houses which occupants forget to lock their gates at night to steal their property.

Ismail was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on July 15, 2022, for stealing three motorcycles at in Ilorin and Oro.

Speaking during their parade in Ilorin, he confessed that he regained freedom on July 2, 2022, after serving a year and half in jail for stealing a plasma TV.

According to him, “We stole two of the motorbikes in Oro around past 2am after we discovered that the gate to the compound was open.

“We also used the same method in most of our other operations in Ilorin and work with informers.”

The ex-convict, who claimed he was a painter, said he was told that motorcycles were sold for N130,000 each by one Ogunbiyi Johnson, alias Biggy from Osogbo, Osun State, who helped source for buyers.

On his part, Lukman Rasheed (42), who Ogunbiyi usually contacted to get buyers for the stolen motorcycles, said he was only told that the machines were being sold by students who were arrested by EFCC and looking for money to bail themselves.

He, however, said the motorcycles were sold at N330,000 each as against the N130,000 Biggy claimed.

While addressing newsmen, the NSCDC spokesman in the state, Olasunkanmi Ayeni, said, “There have been cases of theft or motorbikes in Kwara State and its environs lately to the extent that some of the victims had been killed in the process.”

He gave the names of the other suspects and accomplices as Abifarin Sunday (barber), Taiwo Elijah and Moses Ishola.
