Kwara wades into secondary school clash, picks 20 students for loitering

The Kwara State government has expressed dissatisfaction over the recent clash between some students of Government Day Secondary School and Government High School, both in Adeta, Ilorin metropolis.

City & Crime reports that the clash left several students injured and many arrested in what has been attributed to a reprisal attack from a prolonged build-up disagreement.

Speaking on the issue during an unscheduled visit to the affected schools, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, warned that the government would not tolerate anti-social behaviour.

“The principals reported almost a decade-long crisis between the schools which they have been managing,” a statement by the press secretary of the ministry, Peter Amogbonjaye, said.

The commissioner expressed great displeasure with the students’ attitudes and the management for not immediately notifying the ministry.

She assured of government intervention and urged the students to have a change of attitude and remain focused on their studies to have a blissful future.

She disclosed that the government was prioritising education to bring out the best in the students and urged them to reciprocate the gesture by avoiding behaviours that may dent the image of the state.

Meanwhile, the commissioner said about 20 students were picked on the streets during school hours across the Ilorin metropolis.

While addressing the students and their parents in the ministry, Hajia Modibbo Kawu implored the parents to continue to partner with the schools and be involved in their children’s education to ensure that they are on track.

She warned the students to desist from loitering during school hours and promised that the government would ensure the success of all indigent children in the state.
