Kwara varsity students protest change of exam venue

Some students of the sandwich programmes of Kwara State University (KWASU), have protested the change of their examination venues by the authorities.

The protest was staged by students of its Study Centre at the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS).

While rejecting the decision, the affected students said the situation has affected their preparations for the examinations.

But reacting to the development on Tuesday, KWASU, in a statement by its Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee, said the protest was unwarranted and promoted by mischief makers to undermine the integrity of the scheduled examinations.

According to the management, claims by the CAILS management that they were not carried along in the decision to change the examination venue are both baseless and mischievous.

“The public needs to note that KWASU has two external locations for its sandwich degree Programme at CAILs and Imam Hamzat College of Education.

“These two institutions are not affiliated to KWASU but it’s study centres for its sandwich degree programmes.

“This implies that the concerned students are fully under the administration of Kwara State University. The University is therefore not required to seek the authorization of CAILS before making decisions on the concerned students.

“As such, all sandwich degree students of that Study Centre will be guided by the standards KWASU sets,” it noted.

It added, “The decision of KWASU to centralise the examination venue for all the sandwich degree students of the institution was to protect the sanctity of the examination and ensure standardisation of the evaluation process which was communicated to all the students in an orientation exercise two weeks ago. And not three days before the examination as mischievously presented by CAILS’ management.

“The approved venue is the KWASU Conference Centre along old Jebba Road, Ilorin and for the avoidance of doubt, we will not compromise the quality of any of our processes, nor be swayed by propaganda peddled to coerce it into deviating from its stance on ensuring the quality of its products.

“The examination for the sandwich degree programme, which has been scheduled to hold centrally at the KWASU conference centre, will not change, and the affected students are advised to take note,” the school added.
