Kwara traditionalist in fresh trouble, dragged to 5th court

A popular traditionalist in Kwara State, Abdullazeez Adegbola, who is fondly referred to as Tani-Olohun, has been slammed with a fresh charge of defamation and injurious falsehood before a magistrates’ court in Ilorin.

City & Crime reports that Tani-Olohun had faced trial in four courts filed by parties since last year over defamation and burning of the Quran.

The prosecutors in one of the cases against Tani-Olohun opted for an out-of-court settlement and urged the court to strike out the case.

However, while waiting for the report of the settlement by two parties, Tani-Olohun was served with another court paper.

The plaintiffs in the new case were the prosecuting counsels in the four previous trials: Barrister Usman Sa’ad Imam and an Islamic cleric, Dr Ahmad Olarewanju Al-Fulani.

The complainants joined an Italy-based Nigerian, Osatola Abimbola, as a defendant, accusing him and Tani-Olohun of bullying, maligning, insulting and defaming their personalities on social media through a Facebook page: “Isese Lagba”.

Our correspondent reports that the fresh case against the defendant will be heard on February 5, 2024, by Magistrate Hafusat Alege.

Speaking with City & Crime in court after the sitting, Tani-Olohun said his lawyer was aware of the new case and was prepared to stand for him.

He added that, “I am not connected to the first defendant in any way and didn’t commit the offences charged against me. We will see when we appear for the hearing.”
