Kwara pioneer Grand Khadi, Justice Orire, is dead

The pioneer Grand Khadi Kwara State Shariah Court, Justice Abdulkadir Orire is dead.

Justice Orire who died at the age of 87 was the pioneer Grand Khadi of the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal between 1975 and 1999.

The late jurist was instrumental to the establishment of what is today known as University of Ilorin and founder of the Muslim Corpers Association (MCAN) and several other Muslim associations to unite the Muslims.

He was the secretary of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in Kaduna during the Zangon Kataf crisis and a member of the 1999 constitution review committee.

As the pioneer Grand Khadi in Kwara State, Justice Orire initiated the building of the Shariah Court of Appeal in Ilorin and also initiated the building of that of Lokoja.

Meanwhile, Kwara State government has mourned the death of the late jurist who is described as an exemplary leader who distinguished himself as an erudite legal scholar, researcher, Muslim community leader, and development activist.

In a condolence message from the governor, Justice Orire was said to had devoted his entire life to scholarship, humanitarian services, propagation of Islam, and inter-religious peace-building in Kwara and Nigeria.
