Kwara moves to curb illegal shops construction

Residents of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital have called on the state government to come to their aid over the construction of illegal shops along major roads.
Some of the residents that spoke with Daily Trust lamented that the development was causing a lot of problem for motorists and pedestrians while the state government and state House of Assembly kept sealed lips on the matter.
This has also led to indiscriminate parking by the owners of the shops and other motorists passing through the roads.
“The state government maintained sealed lips because it is  the one selling the portion of lands to those constructing the shops even when they know they won’t expand the roads.
“If it doesn’t want to do anything, they should leave the road the way it has been so that when a committed government wants to expand, it would not have to spend money on demolition of those illegal shops,” a resident said.
But the Kwara State House of Assembly has expressed its frustration over the development.
To address this, the House has resolved to invite the Ministry of Works and Transport, Housing and Environment as well as the State Housing Corporation, Bureau of Land, Harmony Holdings, Town Planning Development Authority and Kwara State Road Traffic Maintenance Authority (KWARTMA) at a later date to be confirmed.
