Kwara gov submits amendment bill on LG elections to state assembly

The Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq has submitted the State Local Government Electoral Amendment Bill 2023, to the House of Assembly for consideration and passage.

The bill scaled second reading on the floor of the House yesterday. 

The Executive Bill is aimed at amending the Kwara State local government electoral law and changing the number of days for notice of election and other related matters.

The bill, passed second reading, following a debate on its general principles, led by the Majority Leader, Abdulkadir Magaji. 

Abdulkadir, who described the alterations as germane, said that there was no perfect law anywhere in the world, hence the need for the amendment. 

He said that the amendments to Sections 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 29 and 105 were imperative to bring the law as it exists in the state in tune with the electoral act in the country. 

The majority leader called for a quick passage of the bill in order to fast-track the conduct of local government elections in the state.
