Residents of Oke-Foma community, a suburb of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, have been under siege following incessant activities of robbers and burglars.

The areas mostly affected are phases 1, 2, 3 and Madi.

Residents of these areas have lost property and money to the onslaught by the hoodlums.

They said the insecurity plaguing the community started last year October.

On Friday, hoodlums invaded Phase 3 and carted away a huge amount of money and other valuables belonging to Alhaji Ibrahim Sogbo.

Alhaji Ibrahim told Daily Trust that his house had been consistently attacked even before he moved in.

He said, “They carted away bags of cement and a generator, among other properties and valuables in previous attacks. On Friday, a huge amount of money for my wife’s business trip was stolen.”

Also, Yahaya Qadir, who just collected a motorcycle on hire purchase at N700,000, said he lost the motorcycle to robbers when they invaded his compound.

Qadir said, “They came to our compound last month and took away my motorcycle. A friend who also collected hire purchase two months before me lost his motorcycle to them.”

Tunde Azeez, who resides in Phase 1, told our reporter that he also lost his motorcycle to the robbers when he went to see a friend around 7pm last week.

Azeez said, “So many cases of robbery and burglary are going on here. We have lost several cows and goats worth millions of naira. Between January and now no fewer than five cars have been stolen in this community, and the community has reported the matter to the police at the Adewole station.”

At the Adewole station, a police source told our reporter that the division recorded 20 cases of robbery and burglary from the community between October, 2021, and January, 2022.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, Ajayi Okasanmi, said, “We are going to investigate the matter and arrest the suspects.”
