Kwara community seeks intervention on tanker route

Residents of Pakata in Ilorin West LGA of Kwara State have appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for immediate intervention to prevent tanker drivers from using the Adeta-Pakata-Alore-Oloje road in Ilorin, which runs through the heart of the metropolis.

The plea was made by the President of Pakata Patriots, Mallam Shehu Aliyu.

Aliyu explained that the problem arose after articulated lorries were blocked from using the newly completed Alfa Yahaya Road, forcing tanker drivers to divert through residential areas.

He said the tankers, often carrying petrol, now use the Adeta-Pakata-Alore-Oloje route to connect Oko-Olowo or Geri Alimi, creating a serious safety hazard for the residents.

“The activities of these drivers are posing a significant danger to the lives of those living along the road and other road users,” Mallam Aliyu warned.

He expressed concern over the high risk of fire accidents from petrol-laden vehicles, which has instilled fear in the community.

The community leader appealed to the governor to swiftly direct relevant authorities to provide alternative routes for the highly inflammable vehicles.

On his part, the community’s public relations officer, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed Orekan, stressed the urgency of the matter, calling for immediate intervention to avert disaster.
