Kwara community raises alarm over activities of land grabbers

Aleniboro Community in Ilorin West LGA of Kwara State, has raised an alarm over increasing insecurity and disturbance caused by a group of land grabbers claiming to represent the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin, Dr Usman Abubakar Jos.

Speaking with Daily Trust over the issue, chairman of the community, Alhaji Yusuf Oloyin, attributed the contention to a long-standing land dispute between Aleniboro and the Ilorin Airport Authority which the Emir of Ilorin helped to resolve.

He said the affected individuals, about 300, possessed valid documents against the claims of the Balogun.

According to him, “The residents had been harassed and intimidated while construction activities had been disrupted amidst theft and extortion among other criminal activities.

“Now, some hoodlums have taken advantage of the situation attacking, snatching phones, waylaying, and collecting money from passersby at night”, he added.

He said the community has written to the Kwara State commissioner of police seeking intervention over the development.

Speaking on the issue, the Balogun Alanamu, Usman Abubakar Jos, told our correspondent during a phone chat that the affected land owners “are only out for mischief”.

“I have placed several radio adverts for those affected to come with their land papers to determine whether they bought it from the right or wrong place. But some magajis appointed by my predecessors have told them to shun our invitation.

“Those who came have been confirmed and we ordered stoppage of work on ongoing construction until our verification process is concluded.”
