“Over seven years ago, a heavy rainstorm damaged some electric poles in our community.

“The cables that fell from the damaged electricity poles were later carted away by some unidentified persons,” he said.

The district head lamented that the electricity blackout had paralysed the socio-economic activities of the residents of the community for the past seven years.

He added that many artisans, particularly those that use electricity to carry out their daily economic activities, had fled from the community to other areas.

“Officials of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (lBEDC) came to dialogue with residents of our community two years ago on how to solve the blackout issue but till today, nothing positive came out of it,” the district head said.

He called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq to rescue the community from the blackout by restoring their electricity for economic activities to return to the area.

The state Commissioner for Energy, Alhaji Lafia Aliyu-Sabu, said the state Ministry of Energy was not aware of the blackout in Aawe community.

However, he directed the community leaders to formally write to the governor about their plight for necessary action to be taken by the ministry.
