Kwara community laments 5 years of blackout

Residents of the Ayetoro area in Ajegunle/Zango community in Ilọrin, Kwara State, have lamented over five years of blackout in the area.

The Chairman of the community, Pastor Femi Alabi, who spoke with City & Crime, attributed the problem to an old and faulty transformer.

He said, “We have lived in darkness for over five years. We have written several letters to the Ministry of Energy.

“The community spent about N3m on two occasions to repair the transformer and now we have been told that it would cost about N4m to put it in order. We know the present governor is a lover of the masses and hopeful that he will come to our rescue. We also lack roads.”

A trader, popularly known as Iya oni moi moi, and other female traders told our correspondent that each household contributed N30,000 the last time to repair the transformer; which lasted only a few months.

The residents, therefore, pleaded with the government to help them with a new transformer.
