Kwara: APC members accuse party chairman of imposition, seek Gov’s intervention

Some members of the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ifelodun local government area hav3 accused chairman of the party, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, of alleged imposition and undermining the leadership of the Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi.

At a press conference held at the NUJ Press center, the members who claimed to have the support of 20 out of the 26 member executives, accused Fagbemi of imposing one Lukman Abubakar as the chairman of the party.

They however “rejected” the move and vowed to do everything “constitutionally expedient” to redress the matter.

Speaking during the event, Prince Owolabi Olatayo Razaq, flanked by other members, said the decision is at variance with the party’s constitution and the rights conferred on him to act if the substantive chairman resigned.

“We remain loyal to the APC under the leadership of our amiable Governor, his deputy and other stakeholders in Ifelodun. Fagbemi is undermining the Deputy Governor with his decision and weakening the party ahead of 2027. This is unacceptable”, he noted.

Responding in a telephone chat with our correspondent, the state chairman, denied the accusations.

According to him “They want to whip up sentiment and I am not ready to be part of that. The party has made its decision with the choice of Lukman Abubakar as chairman in Ifelodun and moved on. Anybody not satisfied and feels the press is the next point of call, I wish them well.

“He (Razak) was indicted with the former chairman that resigned. But we still asked him to be the vice to the new chairman at the meeting of the party yesterday in Ifelodun. At no point was he appointed acting chairman,” he said

Fagbemi added that “The Governor or Deputy Governor among other leaders are not part of the Ifelodun local government executive, so I don’t really understand when they say I am undermining the Deputy Governor. “
