Kwara abductees told to pay ransom from proceeds of sold house

One Mr Kazeem Asalapa who was abducted penultimate week at Gaa Olobi community at Okoolowo area of Ilorin, Kwara State, together with his daughter in-law, have reportedly paid N1m to secure their freedom.

A resident of the community, Mr Saka, told City & Crime that the negotiation process exposed the depth of information the abductors had before any operation.

He said, “They initially demanded N100m, but we said we can’t afford it. Then they reduced it to N50m, until it got to N1m for the two victims. When we said we didn’t have money, they told us that they would kill the victims because they were aware we recently sold a house and so should pay the ransom from that.”

Saka, who revealed that the money was taken to the abductors inside a forest, said the abductors were communicating with somebody on phone who was giving them information about their victims.

The spokesman of the Kwara command, Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed their release, however, said he was not aware of the payment of any ransom.
