Kwara: Abducted Chinese regains freedom

The Kwara State Police Command said it has “rescued” the Chinese national, PengChao Zhang, who was abducted penultimate Sunday around Eyenkorin in Kwara State.

PengChao, also known as Williams Kaka among his business associates, was abducted by six armed men who invaded Cherish Guest House, an isolated facility on the outskirts of Ilorin.

Police spokeswoman, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi (DSP), told our correspondent on telephone that the Chinese expatriate was “rescued” in the early hours of Tuesday.

Toun added that “Through diligent and coordinated efforts, the command’s tactical teams and vigilantes executed a series of strategic search and investigation leading to the safe rescue of the victim in the early hours of March 19, 2024.

“The command is pleased to confirm that the victim has since been reunited with his family unharmed.

“This achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of the Kwara State Police Command to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors within the state,” she added.

However, City & Crime reliably gathered that the victim, said to be a former employee of Erkang Quarry, was released by his abductors after the payment of an undisclosed amount of ransom.

A reliable security source who was privy to the development said Zhang was released in a forest close to Shagamu in conjunction with some operatives guiding a company close to the place.
