A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilọrin has ordered the remand of two men, Segun Obatunlese and Sola Ajayi, for allegedly killing one Wasiu Jimoh in his cashew farm in Isin LGA contrary to Sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code.
The Police First Information Report (FIR) presented to the court reads in part: “The deceased met about seven men stealing cashew nuts in his farm. Three of them chased him with cutlasses out of his farm. Immediate police action led to a visit to the farm where Wasiu Jimoh was discovered in his pool of blood.
“Concerted police efforts led to the arrest of the suspects. During investigation, Obatunlese confessed receiving a phone call from Ajayi to come to his rescue from thieves pursuing him in the farm. Armed with a single-barrel load-ed with live cartridges, he shot the deceased while picking cashew nuts knowing he was not a thief.”
The prosecutor, Mathew Ologbonsaye, urged the court to remand the suspects, but the defence counsel, Toyin Onaolapo, argued to the contrary.
