The Kwara State Fire Service said 12 dead bodies had been recovered from various wells and rivers across the state in the last 11 months.
The fatalities also include four bodies recovered from the rivers.
Most of the casualties were recorded around the metropolis, involving teenagers and adults.
Reacting to the Daily Trust Saturday inquiry on the statistics on Friday, the Head of the Department of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, identified three major causes in relation to the incidents.

“From January 2023 till date, we have been able to recover 12 people dead from domestic wells and four from the rivers respectively, who jumped inside and drowned.
“Through our investigations, we identified three primary causes for these incidents – carelessness, ignorance and mental health issues.
“A significant number of cases involve underage children being sent to fetch water from domestic wells without proper awareness of the associated hazards,” Adekunle said
