Kogi residents groan as price of cooking gas rises

Residents of Lokoja metropolis and its environs are lamenting the rapid rise in the price of cooking gas which has, over the years, assumed the preferred means of cooking.

The increase in the price of the product is coming even as the number of marketers within Lokoja metropolis has increased with many filling stations selling the product.

The 12.5 kg cylinder that was refilled for about N5,300 about two months ago now sells for N6,000.

An investigation by North Central Trust showed that there was an about 30 percent increase across the board.

Many consumers interviewed said they were more worried because of a similar increase in the price of kerosene, leaving them with no option at home

A litre of kerosine in Lokoja metropolis now sells for N400 at filling stations and between N420 and N430 outside.

Mrs Lami Audu who spoke to our correspondent said that she would have no alternative than to resort to the use of firewood or charcoal if the situation persisted.

None of the officials at the filling stations approached was ready to speak on the increase.
