The Nigerian Red cross has expressed its determination to support the rehabilitation and resettlement of victims recently ravaged by flood disaster across Kogi State.
Secretary General of the Nigerian Red cross, Abubakar Kende gave the hint on Tuesday in Lokoja on the sidelines of a three-day workshop organised for its newly elected Governing Board members and executives from states in the North Central and South West geopolitical zones of the country.
He said as the victims begin to return to their places following the receding of water, the Red cross would support in the aspects of rebuilding some of the destroyed/collapsed houses using local building materials and fumigation of houses.
“The people getting back to resettle. Most of the water wells and hand dug wells and pumps that were flooded are now being infected. We have also seen some reptiles when we were doing assessment. We want to assist in fumigating the houses that were taken by water previously. We also want to ascertain the level of contamination of water wells with the view to treating or disinfecting them.”
He further added “We still have people that need basic health services. We will provide basic health interventions. There are areas that need complete new boreholes, we will see how we can provide that.”
