A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Architect Abayomi Awoniyi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s primary for the November 11 governorship poll.
Senator Dino Melaye was declared the winner of the governorship primary election.
But Awoniyi, a former deputy governor of the state, in a statement Tuesday, described the primary as a window dressing that will affect the winning prospect of the party at the poll.
He said the election that produced Senator Melaye as PDP flag bearer was a pyrrhic one, portending great danger to the unity of the party.
He alleged that “158 delegates who emerged from the state ad-hoc congress of the 29th March 2023 were replaced” by the powers that be at the national level, giving due advantage to Melaye to coast home victory.
“If the list from the ad hoc delegate congress of the 29th March 2023 were used for the primary of the 16th April 2023, we would have had a free, fair and transparent election, with probably a completely different outcome,” he added.
He said unless the national body of the party acts fast and reviews the said primary; the party may not make any meaningful impact in the governorship election.
